Break-ins at Dogwood Grove

The following notes were sent from the DGHA (Dogwood Grove Homeowners Association) Neighborhood Watch beginning on 4/13/2010:
Collierville Police can be reached at 853-3207

Hello DGHA Members,

Two individuals have been apprehended and are currently in jail. They admitted to all 4 break-ins and the stolen property has been returned to all the families. The suspects attend school at Christian Brothers High School. The cuts on one of the suspect's hands led to their arrest. I want to thank Stephanie Hathcock for this update. We don't know if and when this news story will be printed in the local paper or website with their identification however we believe that one of the suspects lives in Dogwood Grove.

In the meantime, although these individuals have been caught, it has been a big wake up call for many of us to be more diligent with setting our alarms when we run out. I have spoken to many members who have shared these thoughts.

Also, if you are interested in stepping up your security, ADT and Brink's offer "glass break" alarms which attach to your ceiling and go off immediately when a window (or you slam a door hard) is broken. We also appreciate the surveillance cameras taken by the first robbery and the Hathcock's persistence to air this story on Fox News. And a big thank you to Mara Dale from Membership and Eleanor Byrne from Welcoming sending me updates so we could piece things together. Great team work among our neighbors, I am proud to live in Dogwood Grove among all of you!

I want to thank you for enduring all my emails over the last week as well!

Collierville representatives are currently reviewing their options in removing a beaver from the wildlife area adjacent to THE LAURELS. They are researching who has jurisdiction to that area and hope to have updates for us in time for the Homeowners meeting Monday night.

4/15/10

Hello DGHA Members,

Stephanie Hathcock did an interview with Fox News which was aired last night but it will be aired again tonight on Fox News at 9 PM (channel 13) and then on channel 5 at 10 PM also tonight. They will also show the surveillance video captured during one of the break-ins (unless something changes of course).

04/06/10

Hello DGHA Members,

Yesterday afternoon, there was a robbery on Dove Spring Cove between 3:30 and 4pm while the home owner had run out to pick up the kids from school and had not set the alarm. It was reported as 2 possible teenage kids wearing t-shirts and white sneakers. They broke a back window, entered the house and rummaged through a jewelry box and dresser but nothing was reported missing (possibly due to scaring them off upon victim coming home). The police do have sufficient evidence in this case.

Another robbery took place over the weekend on Spring Hollow where they jimmied a back window and took gold jewelry but nothing else. Other valuable jewelry was left behind.

So, as a reminder, if you have a home alarm system, please use them when running out even for a short period.

If anyone observes "out of place" behavior, they should try to get the license plate number and/or location, a description of the vehicle + occupants and call the Germantown Police non-emergency number, 757-7338 / 7339.

Scoop the Poop

2/3/10 I've had numerous complaints from residents and ... have personally noticed more pet waste than ever being left throughout our neighborhood recently.

Please watch for neighbors not cleaning up after their pets and let me know. 581-2558. Fines can be imposed.

Collierville Leaf Pickup

12/18/09 - A representative from the city confirmed that "DRY" leaf pickup is continuing weekly. Please keep cars off the street on Mondays + Tuesdays as the vacuum trucks can only reach 5 feet. Continue to rake leaves to the curb for pickup.

NOTE: Rain can delay pickup.

11/23/09 - "Loose leaf collection routes are scheduled to follow the regular solid waste collection schedule as closely as possible. However, loose leaf collection may not occur on the same day as your regular collection day due to leaf volume and inclement weather (Nov. 1, 2009 - Mar 31, 2010)."

Leaves can be raked to curb but please don't rake them into the street near a storm drain.

Bagworms attacking Arborvitae in THE LAURELS

June ... Dead-looking Arborvitae have been sighted within THE LAURELS. The pictures to the left show a healthy Arborvitae (Picture #1) and one infested with Bagworms (Picture #2). Bagworms can be killed effectively with a spray from a local nursery. The damaged parts of the Arborvitae will return to life in 2-3 years. Pick off as many bagworms as possible. Watch for re-emergence next year and be prepared to spray again.

After nearly a year of company delays, the request to place a cell tower on Grace Evan property was finally removed from the Collierville Board of Zoning Appeals Agenda.

Residents from THE LAURELS worked hard to keep the 150' tower from being built so close to Laurel Knoll Circle. They also were instrumental in getting an ordinance amendment passed limiting future requests for all residents of Collierville.

A representative of the board said "Several Laurels homeowners, especially Mr. Terral, Ms. Sigmon, and Mr. Ford, contributed greatly to the amendment by reviewing the draft ordinance and providing comments and revisions during the approval process. The Board ultimately adopted a maximum height limitation of 100 feet for new cell towers in residential districts (this is down from the maximum of 150 feet allowed before the amendment, but higher than the 75 feet included in the draft of the amendment). While a tower could still conceivably be built next to a residential area, the ‘bar has been raised’ by the Town for applicants to justify such a location." - S.I.

On behalf of all Collierville residents - Thanks to our neighbors on Laurel Knoll Circle for staying on top of this issue.

DID YOU KNOW . . .

. . . Collierville has a Leash-Law.

Your pet must be supervised and on some type of restraint if it is not on your property. Pet waste must be picked up from other yards, tree lawns and common areas.

Many pet owners already comply with these rules. Thank you for helping to make our neighborhood a lovely place to live.

If you notice unsupervised animals in our neighborhood:
1.) Contact the owner to let them know their pet is loose,
2.) Check this website for a "Lost Pet Alert",
3.) Contact Collierville Animal Control (853-3215) to remove the animal from our neighborhood.

A red light on the pole at the east side of our front entrance . . .

indicates our Pumping Station #28 is not working. We have 24 hours to notify Collierville Utilities at 853-3207 before our sewage begins backing up.

Parking within THE LAURELS:

Please follow all Collierville street laws in our neighborhood. Parked cars should be the same direction as traffic flow. Enough room should be left for a large fire truck to pass by easily.

Vehicles left outside overnight should be parked in your driveway/garage. Overnight parking for guests is available in marked spaces in our alleys throughout the development. Please remember to remove garage door openers and any personal items from your car if it is parked in your driveway overnight.

Any vehicles not used for daily transportation should be stored within your garage, behind a fence on your property or at a storage facility.

Front Entry Traffic Flow

Vehicles proceeding down Laurel Lane between the front entry and our large common area in the center of our neighborhood have the "Right of Way".

Vehicles turning onto Laurel Lane from East Laurel Hollow, West Laurel Hollow, in the traffic circle, turning from either alley or in the alley cross over should give traffic on Laurel Lane the "Right of Way".

If you move into the circle or are turning from either alley onto Laurel Lane, please yield to any traffic already on Laurel Lane.

REMEMBER ... please follow all posted signs and speeds ... for the safety of all our residents and their pets.

Hi all,Please pass this info on to your neighbors.

If you are a block captain, please notify your block. The C'ville Police are doing an intensive investigation in our area to stop the current outbreak of burglaries. I have not heard of any in Almadale other than our clubhouse last week (our computer, printer, & petty cash were taken), but Halle has been a target for at least seven break-ins.

Last night I'm sure many of you heard the helicopter(s) searching around 9:30 and that was due to a reported break-in in Halle.

Also yesterday around 5 pm I saw a young man try to open my gate to the back yard. He had two canvas bags on his shoulder. When he found the gate locked he turned and saw me through the window. As it happened a police car was passing and saw the kid run from my house. He was stopped, searched and taken away. (This was a kid maybe 16 or 17, red faced, shorts and flip flops. His canvas bags were full.)

So, needless to say, police are asking for any info or suspicious behavior to be reported (853-3207). Keep your lights on, garage doors closed, fence gates locked and your eyes open! Turn on your alarm system when away during the day and at night!

Thanks
MJ

Hi all,
Asking for your help.

The Almadale Farms clubhouse was broken into sometime between the hours of 3pm Tuesday and 9am Wednesday. They entered through a window that was hidden by a fence for the trash cans. Our computer and printer and petty cash were taken. If anyone saw anything suspicious around that time, please let me know & I'll forward it to the police.

Cell Tower Update

2/3/09

The cell tower issue is not over. A work session is being planned for Feb 9th around 4:30 to 5 on Monday before the actual BMA meeting. We are all invited to attend.

The changes (see 1/14/09 below) were never made to the ordinance and representatives from our neighborhood have never been invited to provide citizen input.

Thanks go out to our team of neighbors as they continue to work hard to reduce the number of and the height of potential cell towers in Collierville.

1/14/09
A 75 foot limit on cell towers was approved by the planning commission last night and rules for co-location on existing structures were relaxed.

Please congratulate our fellow residents on and near Laurel Knoll Circle for their persistence in bringing about this positive end.

Subject: Thefts from vehicles

Good afternoon

As you know there have been several reports of thefts from vehicles in the Almadale and Halle Plantation areas in the last week. Detectives were able to gather video from a retailer that showed a victim's credit/debit card being used. The attached flyer depicts two subjects who have information. Can you circulate the flyer via e-mail to your residents. We feel that someone within the neighborhood associations will know these two.

If no information comes from the email circulation, we will probably then release something to the media. We try to wait as long as possible because the suspects obviously will immediately be tipped off that we are on to them. I really appreciate your help. I'm in and out of the office often, but if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call. Thanks again for your help.

09/25/08 * * * 4 cars were broken into in Almadale Farms

Not 2 . . . but 4 break-ins occurred Thursday night.

- Please turn on all of your outside lights.
- Remove all personal items (especially your garage door opener) from your car if you must leave it outside overnight.
- Make sure your garage door is closed and all your doors are locked.

One of our residents reported a suspicious white or off white large car to Collierville police last week. They saw it speed away from E Laurel Hollow Circle when they were out walking at 4:30am.

09/23/08 e-mail from Almadale Farms Homeowners' Association

"There have been several car break-ins in the Almadale & Halle neighborhoods last week. The police advise all residents to lock their car doors whenever parked.

There have been repeated incidents of items being stolen from unlocked vehicles in both business and residential areas throughout our community and across Shelby County. While locking your doors does not guarantee that you will not become a victim of crime, it may discourage certain crimes of opportunity. Additionally, do not store valuables in your car and do not put items in obvious view to a passerby.

Report any suspicious activity to Collierville Police at 853-3207. Please share this info with neighbors not on my email list."

If you must leave your car parked outside, remove your garage door opener. This would be an easy way for them to gain access to your home at a later date.
